Washington, D.C. – Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) spoke on the House Floor to urge Congress to continue to fund production of the Virginia and Columbia Class Submarines at Pentagon Recommended Levels.
With Congress considering the National Defense Authorization Act this week – an annual, must-pass piece of legislation that directs our nation’s defense priorities and spending – Rep. Magaziner made clear that the U.S. Navy’s Submarine Program is essential to protect global democracy and support thousands of working Rhode Islanders who build these vessels.
“Authoritarian dictatorships pose a threat to the United States, our democratic allies, and peaceful people across the world,” said Rep. Magaziner. “Against that backdrop, America’s submarine fleet is one of the most important advantages our nation has to defend our country and to make the world safe for democracy.”
Rhode Island is a leader in submarine production, with over 6,000 Rhode Islanders employed by General Dynamics Electric Boat in North Kingstown, and its local suppliers.
