Washington, D.C. – On may 10, Representative Magaziner (RI-02) spoke on the House Floor in support of H.Res.178, a resolution to affirm the House of Representatives’ commitment to strengthening Social Security & Medicare.

“Social Security and Medicare are vital lifelines, and we must protect them,” said Rep. Magaziner. “Let’s… pass H.Res.178 to declare our sense that we are committed to protecting Social Security and Medicare.”

Specifically, Rep. Magaziner called upon his colleagues to build upon the historic progress made by President Biden and Congressional Democrats to lower the cost of prescription drugs for all Americans.

“Last year, Democrats and President Biden passed a measure to allow Medicare to negotiate with the drug companies to lower drug prices,” said Rep. Seth Magaziner. “We should expand this program!”

H.Res.178 expresses the sense of the House of Representatives that:

•    Social Security should be protected as a foundational promise to Americans;

•    Social Security & Medicare are benefits Americans earned throughout their careers;

•    Social Security & Medicare is supported by Americans;

•    Cuts should not be made to Social Security & Medicare;

•    Social Security should not be privatized.
