COVENTRY, RI – March 21, 2023 – The Coventry Town Council ratified a three year contract for new Town Manager, Daniel Parrillo on Monday night. The ratification comes after the Council unanimously voted on February 27 to extend an offer of employment to Parrillo.
Parrillo comes to Coventry to continue a 30-plus career spent entirely in the public service realm. He started his career as a correctional officer with the Rhode Island Department of Corrections before eventually joining the Johnston Police Department where he retired as Deputy Chief and Emergency Management Director after a 25 year career. He then went on to serve as Personnel Director and Director of Administration/Chief of Staff in the Fung administration in the City of Cranston. As the Director of Administration, Parrillo managed 16 department heads and was responsible for every major decision, managed the day-to-day operations, and oversaw a 300 million dollar budget for the second largest city in Rhode Island. During his tenure, Cranston was named a Best City to Live in America by 24/7 Wall Street numerous times.
Parrillo is a lifelong Rhode Islander who graduated from LaSalle Academy, earned a Bachelor’s at Providence College, an Associate’s in Law Enforcement from CCRI, a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University, a Master’s in Administration of Justice/Homeland Security, and holds two certificates from the JFK School of Government at Harvard University in Driving Government Performance and Leadership for the 21st Century. Parrillo was also invited to attend the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia back in 2014, an extremely competitive and rigorous program.
In addition to his academic and professional experience, Parrillo has completed trainings and professional development courses in racial equity in leadership, executive development, strategic planning, incident command, ethics, and many more.
Parrillo is a volunteer with many local organizations including but not limited to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Johnston Historical Society, St. Rocco’s Church Feast and Finance Committee, and the Comprehensive Community Action Program. He currently resides in Johnston, RI with his wife Karen and son Mitchell and is very excited for this opportunity to work with the dedicated directors and staff in Coventry who serve the residents and business owners daily in their various capacities.
