Plymouth State's Wilus inducted into high school Hall of Fame

Plymouth State University head men's lacrosse coach Mike Wilus was inducted into his high school Athletic Hall of Fame last Saturday.

Wilus, currently in his sixth season with the Panthers and fourth as head coach, was one of four athletes and four athletic teams to be enshrined in the North Penn Alumni Athletic Association Hall of Fame over the weekend.

A 2007 graduate of NPHS, Wilus earned seven varsity letters and was named the 2007 Reporter Boy's Lacrosse Player of the Year. As a four-year varsity lacrosse player, he finished his career with a North Penn school record 151 goals and 193 points. Team captain as a senior, he was also selected as the team MVP. Wilus also played three seasons of varsity football, serving as a captain during his final year.

"It was very humbling to head back to where my athletic journey started and be recognized by the North Penn Alumni Athletic Association," said Wilus. "I had many great coaches and mentors that helped me along the way and now I feel so lucky to be able to be that person for my players."

A three-time SOL First Team and three-time Montgomery County All-Area Team selection, Wilus was chosen as the NPHS Athlete of the Year in both his sophomore and junior years. In addition to his Boy's Lacrosse Player of the Year recognition as a senior, he was also selected to the Play by Play Network All-Area Team.

Following his graduation, Wilus earned a lacrosse scholarship at NCAA Division I University of Massachusetts. The Minutemen were ranked in the Top-20 all four years and advanced to the 2009 NCAA Tournament. Wilus played in 37 career games at UMASS at attack and midfield.

Wilus joined the Plymouth State staff as an assistant for the 2018 season before his promotion to head coach in January 2020. He has led the Panthers to the Little East Conference (LEC) Tournament each of the last two years.

Prior to joining the staff at Plymouth State, Wilus served as associate head coach at Lynn University after a three-year stint as the first assistant. He helped lead the Fighting Knights to an eight-win improvement in his time there.

Wilus also spent time at Gwynedd-Mercy College where he led the Griffins to an 18-12 record, going 9-4 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. His 2012 team was ranked as the fifth-most improved team throughout NCAA Division III lacrosse by Laxpower.com.

In addition to his coaching duties, Wilus also serves as PSU's Assistant Director of Transfer Admissions.
