Women’s Track & Field Athletes of the Week: April 25, 2022

Little East Conference recently issued the following announcement.

Field Athlete of the Week

Chelsea Yang (Warwick, R.I.) - Senior - Rhode Island College

Yang was named the LEC Field Athlete of the Week after she placed first in the hammer (57.51m) at MIT's Sean Collier Invitational Saturday, which now ranks her fifth in NCAA Division III this season.

Track Athlete of the Week

Maggie Santacroce (Bristol, Conn.) - Senior - Eastern Connecticut

Santacroce was named LEC Track Athlete of the Week after she ran the fastest 3,000 meter time this year in the Little East Conference, breaking the tape in 11:19.67 as she helped the Warriors win their home invitational Saturday. Her margin of victory was 23 seconds.

Rookie Field Athlete of the Week

Zoe Barnes (New Gloucester, Maine) - Freshman - Southern Maine

Barnes was named the LEC Rookie Field Athlete of the Week after winning the shot put (12.13m), placing fourth in the discus (34.26m) and taking seventh in the hammer (35.57m) at the Pine Tree Relays. Her mark in the shot put is the top mark in the LEC this season, and ranks fourth in New England. Barnes ranks second in the LEC and fifth in New England in the discus.

Rookie Track Athlete of the Week

Jaiden Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) - Senior - UMass Dartmouth

Andrews, who is in her first collegiate season, won the 100-meter dash with a finals time of 12.93 seconds after posting a mark of 12.70 in the prelims, taking first place in the event and posting the fourth-fastest time in the LEC this season. She was also runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.07 seconds.

Relay of the Week

Southern Maine 4x400

The Huskies’ 4x400m relay team of Anna Reny, Emma Noonan, Sophia Poole and Rosemary Train were victorious at the Pine Tree Relays, finishing in 4:09.38, taking down regional rivals Colby and Bates in the win. USM now holds the seventh fastest time in the region this season and the fastest time in the conference by over 17 seconds.
