Kristin Mulry led the UMass Boston women’s soccer team’s rise to prominence in the Little East Conference (LEC), including each of the program’s first four LEC tournament appearances and its first Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament berths.
The Holbrook, Massachusetts native was named the 2008 LEC Rookie of the Year while earning Second Team All-LEC honors, which was the first of her four consecutive all-conference selections. Mulry led the Beacons in scoring with 14 goals and 29 total points as a freshman. Two of those tallies came in UMass Boston’s first-ever LEC tournament match, a 4-0 First Round victory over fifth-seeded UMass Dartmouth.
Mulry was named First Team All-LEC for the first time as a sophomore in 2009, leading the Beacons to a then-program record 14 wins and their first-ever ECAC tournament appearance after once again advancing to the LEC semifinals. She again led the team in scoring with 17 goals and 37 total points, which placed her second in program history in both categories. Those totals still rank in the top-10 in program history to this day.
Mulry’s junior campaign in 2010 saw UMass Boston advance to the LEC tournament final for the first time as the fourth-seeded Beacons posted a 1-0 First Round win over Southern Maine before advancing to the final on penalties against top-seeded Eastern Connecticut in the Seminal Round. After falling second-seeded Western Connecticut in the LEC Championship Tournament Final, Mulry helped lead the Beacons to their first-ever ECAC tournament victory, scoring one goal and setting up the game-winner in a 3-2 triumph over Norwich.
After scoring 10 goals with six assists for 26 points and leading UMass Boston to its third consecutive 14-win season, Mulry was named a First Team All-LEC selection for the second time on her way to being named a First Team All-Region selection by the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA). She led the Bacons to the semifinal round of the LEC and ECAC tournaments in her final collegiate season.
Mulry, who earned her bachelor’s degree from UMass Boston in 2012, finished her career second in program history with 51 goals and 115 total points, while her 13 career assists were third-most in program history. She was inducted into the UMass Boston Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018.
