This summer, young bookworms will find a new reading space to enjoy at the Providence Public Library. The Brown University Reading Nook is one of the latest additions to the Chace Children’s Discovery Library as part of PPL’s recent $28 million building renovation.

The multi-year project involved an extensive 85,000-square foot reconstruction of the library in downtown Providence to restore and update the historic building and expand resources, services and educational programs for Rhode Island residents. The renovations created modern educational spaces and open technology labs, including a new three-story atrium, a renewed special collections area, and an upgraded auditorium.

The reading area adds new space to the Chace Children’s Discovery Library, a favorite spot for many parents, caregivers and educators for its infant and preschooler story times, Family Learning Sundays and other early childhood learning workshops. The nook is one among a number of Brown initiatives aimed at supporting learning opportunities for Providence students and families.

Communications photographer Nick Dentamaro captured images during the tour.
