URI faculty volunteer at Rhode Island National Guard STEM Exploration Open House for high school students
University of Rhode Island faculty members volunteered to present exhibitions at a STEM Exploration Open House hosted by the Rhode Island National Guard at its Quonset base earlier this month. The event exposed Rhode Island high school students to the various career and educational opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

URI’s Metcalf Institute receives $1.7 million grant to develop science communication fellowship for marginalized populations
The University of Rhode Island’s Metcalf Institute was recently awarded a $1.7 million grant from the National Science Foundation to create the SciComm Identities Project (SCIP), a fellowship designed to train and support science communicators from marginalized communities in environmental science.

Central Falls man sentenced to life in prison for 2020 murder in Pawtucket with illegal gun
Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that a Central Falls man was sentenced to life in prison in Providence County Superior Court after being found guilty of murdering Joel Rosario during a roadside confrontation in Pawtucket in 2020.
