BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's lacrosse team fell in their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener on Monday evening at Bayside Field to Western New England, 24-10.
Matt Halpin (Hanover, Mass.) was responsible for four points in the matchup, scoring three goals and an assist. Kevin Murphy (Ramsey, N.J.) scored three goals with five ground balls. Noah Ravas (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), Ryan Vendetti (Farmington, Conn.), and AJ DaRin (Manlius, N.Y.) each scored a goal and assist in the matchup.
The Golden Bears Carter Randall allowed 10 goals with 14 saves in the tilt picking up the win. Mike Bannon scored four goals and dished out seven assists for 11 points.
After the Golden Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead, Murphy and Halpin scored back-to-back goals to level the score at 2-2. A Dylan Hanley goal gave Western New England a 3-2 lead before the Hawks scored back-to-back goals taking a 4-3 edge.
The Golden Bears then scored seven straight goals before the Hawks added one in the closing seconds of the opening half as they trailed 10-5 at the break. Western New England outscored the Hawks 8-5 in the third quarter, before shutting out Roger Williams in the fourth.
Roger Williams (4-4, 0-1 CCC) will take on Curry on Saturday, Apr. 1 at 12 pm up in Milton, Mass. before facing Nichols on Tuesday, Apr. 4.
