NEWPORT, R.I. – The Roger Williams University baseball team fell to Salve Regina 12-1 on Wednesday in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at Reynolds Field.
Matt Hynes (Farmingdale, N.Y.) went 5.0 innings, giving up five runs with a pair of walks and four strikeouts. At the plate, Roger Williams saw Chris Balzano (Saco, Maine) go 2-for-2 at the dish, with an RBI and a walk, and Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Conn.) went 1-for-3 coming across to score.
After a scoreless first inning, the Seahawks struck first on a sacrifice fly bringing in one to score. They added another run with an RBI single to center field shortly after.
In the third inning Salve Regina added another three runs with a RBI single, followed with a homerun over the left field wall. The Seahawks added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth, before closing out the contest in the seventh inning bringing in four, taking a 12-1 lead.
Roger Williams (3-11, 2-1 CCC) will travel to face Babson on Thursday, Mar. 30 at 3:30 pm in Babson Park. The Hawks will then host Suffolk for a CCC doubleheader at 12 pm on Saturday, Apr. 1.
