Cochran and Marcel record clutch hits as the Bulldogs split on Saturday

Hannah Cochran and Megan Marcel hit back-to-back RBI singles in the top of the seventh inning to give the Bryant University softball team a 7-6 victory against UNC Greensboro in the final game of the Clemson Classic.

The Bulldogs fell in the first game against Jacksonville 12-3.

"Great team win. We used almost the entire pitching staff and got great contributions off the bench in addition to our starters. We showed a lot of heart and resilience to bounce back from a lot of adversity on the day."

 Key Moment (GM1)

  • After the Bulldogs scored two runs. The Dolphins tallied six straight.
How it Happened (GM1)

  • The Dolphins tallied their first run on a single through the left side (1-0) with one out. Jacksonville added two more in the top of the second on a Bulldog throwing error (3-0).
  • During the top of the third inning, JAx added to their lead with three runs off of two RBI singles (6-0).
  • Olyvia Smith knocked a one-out single in the bottom of the third inning. Aleix Hudson then drew a walk, which set up Marcel, who got the Black and Gold on the board with a two-RBI double down the left field line (6-2).
  • The Dolphins countered with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single in the top of the fourth to regain a six-run advantage (8-2).
  • JAX scored four additional runs on a three-run shot and a single in the top of the fifth (12-2).
  • Tesser got a single, and Abby Trimble was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second in the bottom of the fifth. Ashley Kaiser then brought a run home with a single (12-3).

  • Marcel tallied a hit and an RBI.
  • Kaiser posted a hit and RBI.
  • Cochran and Tesser recorded a hit.
  • Kenney tallied three strikeouts, and Josie Gex recorded one in relief.
Key Moment (GM2)

  • Marcel hit a game-tying single, which was followed by a Cochran single, which gave the Bulldogs the lead in the top of the seventh.
How it Happened (GM2)

  • The Knights scored the game's first run on a Black and Gold error (1-0) in the bottom of the first.
  • During the top of the second, Marcel hit a leadoff double down the left field line. McKenzie McAloon then was walked, and the Bulldogs tied the game at one on a wild pitch during the following at-bat. Hailey Aspinwall then earned the lead by hitting an RBI single (2-1). Jenna Gardner was walked, and then Hudson knocked a double, clearing the bases (5-1).
  • UNCG countered with a solo home run in the bottom of the second (5-2).
  • The Knights then took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as they scored four runs on a single and a three-run home run (6-5).
  • In the top of the seventh, Hudson began the rally with a leadoff double. Madison Fitzgerald then hit a single to advance Hudson to third, which led to Marcel tying the game at six with a single. Cochran then matched Marcel and hit the eventual game-winning single to give the Bulldogs a one-run lead (7-6).
