URI Police Department to collect toy donations Dec. 17, 18 at North Kingstown Walmart

WHAT: University of Rhode Island 2022 Stuff-a-Cruiser Toy Drive to assist children and families in need. The event was not held during the height of COVID-19, but the fun and charitable drive resumed last December and continues this weekend. Members of the department say it is one of its most successful community outreach programs. In past years, more than 3,000 toys have been donated by area shoppers, enough to fill eight cruisers. The charitable endeavor is one of many that the University police force organizes. Officers also raise money for Rhody Outpost, the University Food Pantry, and Special Olympics. The police department is also involved in Kids, Cops & Classrooms, which provides school supplies to local school districts.

WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 17, and Sunday, Dec. 18, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE: Walmart, 1031 Ten Rod Road, North Kingstown.

TO MAKE COVERAGE ARRANGEMENTS: Please contact Kristen Curry, URI Communications and Marketing at 401-874-5602, cell, 401-714-2009, kristen.curry@uri.edu.
