Harvard-educated economist, environmental activist, author, hemp farmer, and former two-time Green Party vice presidential candidate Winona LaDuke will kick off the 2022 University of Rhode Island Honors Colloquium Tuesday, Sept. 13 with “Restoring Indigenous Foodways in a Time of Climate Change: Lessons for the 8th Fire.” A Native American, she combines economic and environmental approaches to create a thriving and sustainable community for Indigenous populations across the country.
As the 2022-23 academic year begins at Brown and more than 3,203 new undergraduate, graduate and medical students arrive on College Hill, the University also welcomes a group of 62 dynamic new scholars and educators to the Brown faculty.
Multiple times a week, Nina Lee finds herself in a Rhode Islander’s backyard. She unpacks and then assembles an environmental noise monitor and begins recording. A week later, she’ll return to the site, collect the monitor and store the data for future statistical analysis.
