U.S. Congressman Seth Magaziner, who represents Rhode Island’s 2nd district, used his social media platform on November 3, 2025 to address ongoing government and health care issues amid a federal shutdown.
In a post made at 14:02 UTC, Magaziner criticized the current Congressional recess and called for lawmakers to return to work. He wrote, “House Republicans have been on vacation for 45 days. The government is shut down and health care costs are exploding. Cancel the vacation, and let’s get back to Washington. We have work to do.”
Later that day at 16:16 UTC, Magaziner focused on health insurance concerns for the coming year and solicited feedback from constituents in Rhode Island. He stated, “Open enrollment is here, and I want to hear from you. Are your health care premiums increasing for 2026? Do you rely on ACA tax credits that are set to expire? Share your story using this form. Your voice helps me fight to lower health care costs for RI.”
At 18:34 UTC the same day, Magaziner addressed recent developments regarding Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding and former President Donald Trump’s actions following a court decision. In his words, “Trump could have released SNAP funding this whole time, he just chose not to. Now he’s only acting because a court forced him. House Republicans need to get back to Washington, reopen the government, and make sure hungry people never see delays again.”
Seth Magaziner has served as Rhode Island’s U.S. Representative since replacing James Langevin in 2023 (https://bioguide.congress.gov/search/bio/M001224). Born in Bristol in 1983 and now residing in Cranston, Magaziner is an alumnus of Brown University and Yale University.
