Congressman Seth Magaziner, who has represented Rhode Island’s 2nd District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, recently addressed several policy issues through a series of social media posts. Magaziner, a Brown and Yale graduate born in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1983, used his platform to discuss humanitarian aid, senior services, and trade policy.
On July 14, 2025, Magaziner highlighted concerns about delays in food aid funding and its consequences for children worldwide. He stated, “An estimated 70,000 children have died because USAID was shut down. Nonprofits like @EdesiaNutrition were told new food aid orders are coming, but the funding still hasn’t come. What are we waiting for?”
Later that evening on July 14, he marked the anniversary of federal support for senior citizens’ programs. In his post he wrote: “60 years ago, the Older Americans Act began funding programs like Meals on Wheels, in-home care, and transportation—helping seniors live with dignity and independence. On its anniversary, we must recommit to protecting these essential services and honoring every older American.”
On July 15, Magaziner addressed trade authority under the U.S. Constitution and recent actions by former President Trump regarding tariffs. He asserted: “The Constitution gives Congress, not the President, the power to impose tariffs. And President Trump’s tariffs are driving up costs on everyday goods for working people. I am joining an amicus brief challenging Trump’s abuse of his authority and opposing these illegal tariffs.”
Seth Magaziner succeeded James Langevin as representative for Rhode Island’s 2nd district in 2023 and currently resides in Cranston.
