Seth Magaziner, U.S. Congressman representing Rhode Island’s 2nd district since 2023, used his Twitter account on May 4, 2026, to commemorate Rhode Island Independence Day and highlight the state’s historical significance in the American Revolution.
In a post at 13:25 UTC, Magaziner wrote, “250 years ago Rhode Islanders changed the world by being the first in America to renounce our connection to the British Crown. Happy Rhode Island Independence Day!” Later that day at 14:02 UTC, he reiterated this message with another tweet: “250 years ago, the people of Rhode Island became the first Americans to declare their independence from the British. We didn’t just participate in the Revolution, we started it. Happy May 4th!”
Magaziner also commented on local events and child welfare initiatives. At 15:00 UTC, he posted about attending an event hosted by RI Kids Count in Warwick: “Had a great morning at @RIKidsCount’s annual Factbook Breakfast in Warwick. Rhode Island children should have the health care, education, and the essentials needed to live happy, healthy lives. And we owe it to them to deliver.”
Magaziner was born in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1983 and currently resides in Cranston. He is an alumnus of Brown University (BA) and Yale University.
Rhode Island celebrates its independence annually on May 4th, marking its distinction as the first colony to formally renounce allegiance to King George III two months before the Declaration of Independence was signed by other colonies.
