Congressman Seth Magaziner, who represents Rhode Island’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, highlighted local workforce contributions to national defense, new investments in community infrastructure, and the importance of career and technical education in a series of posts on social media this week.
On March 23, Magaziner recognized the role of Rhode Island workers in supporting military readiness: “Ocean State workers have always stepped up to support our nation’s defense and do so today w/ the construction of @USNavy submarines at Quonset. Grateful to spend time w/ Electric Boat leadership to discuss how we can strengthen maritime security & support those who do the work.”
The following day, he announced funding for a local initiative: “Proud to secure $850K for a new community center in South Kingstown. This space will serve as a hub for recreation and connection for residents at the Champagne Heights housing development. Supporting affordable housing with projects like this remains a top priority for me.” The investment aims to enhance amenities available to residents of affordable housing developments.
Later on March 24, Magaziner emphasized alternative pathways to employment beyond traditional four-year degrees: “Not all good jobs require a four-year degree. We need to invest in career and technical education so Rhode Islanders can train for in-demand jobs in the trades, construction, health care, automotive, and more. Thanks to @actecareertech for working with me on this.”
