U.S. Congressman Seth Magaziner, who represents Rhode Island’s 2nd district, recently highlighted local traditions and federal funding developments in a series of posts on his social media account.
On July 20, Magaziner referenced the annual celebration in Cranston, writing, “St. Mary’s Feast Day is a cherished tradition in Cranston, rooted in the history and culture of Itri, Italy. Many in Cranston trace their heritage back to Itri, and it is always an honor to join the celebration and take part in the procession.”
Two days later, on July 22, Magaziner addressed recent federal funding for ocean monitoring programs. He stated, “NEW: After @chelliepingree, @RepGabeAmo & my advocacy, NOAA’s IOOS program is getting funds to monitor ocean weather, support marine rescues, and give fishermen the data they need to do their jobs. The restoration of this funding is a win for coastal states & the blue economy.”
Later that same day, he expressed appreciation for collaboration with fellow Rhode Island representative Gabe Amo by posting, “Thank you @RepGabeAmo! Always proud to fight for Rhode Islanders with you.”
Seth Magaziner has served as U.S. Representative for Rhode Island’s 2nd District since 2023 after succeeding James Langevin. Born in Bristol in 1983 and currently residing in Cranston—a city noted for its Italian-American community—Magaziner has been involved with local cultural events such as St. Mary’s Feast Day. He holds degrees from Brown University (2006) and Yale University (2010).
