Congressman Seth Magaziner, representing Rhode Island’s 2nd district since 2023, has recently expressed concerns on social media regarding the Trump administration’s decision to block funding for educational programs. Magaziner, who succeeded James Langevin and holds degrees from Brown University and Yale University, is advocating for the release of these funds.
On July 9, 2025, Congressman Magaziner tweeted about the Trump administration’s actions: “Trump is blocking billions in congressionally-approved funds for after-school + summer programs. He has offered no explanation, only saying the funds are ‘under review’. I am standing with RI’s education leaders to say: release the funds now. RI students cannot wait.”
The following day, on July 10, he highlighted the impact of this decision on local organizations and schools: “Schools and nonprofit orgs like the Providence After School Alliance were expecting this funding on July 1. They planned around it. Staff were hired.”
In another tweet posted on July 10, Magaziner provided further details about the situation: “Last week the Trump Admin quietly froze $7 billion in funding for after-school programs, without warning.”
Seth Magaziner was born in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1983 and currently resides in Cranston.
