Congressman Seth Magaziner, who represents Rhode Island’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on October 9, 2025, criticizing House Republicans and Speaker Johnson for their handling of the government shutdown and rising health care costs.
In his first tweet at 12:14 UTC, Magaziner wrote: “House Republicans have been on vacation for 20 days. The government is shut down and health care costs are exploding. Cancel the vacation, and let’s get back to Washington. We have work to do.”
Later that day at 13:05 UTC, he directed his comments toward Speaker Johnson with another post: “This is the look of a man who has made a huge mistake. Speaker Johnson: you have kept the House on vacation for 20 days with the government shut down and health care costs exploding. Stop the political games. Call us back into session so we can solve this now!”
Magaziner also addressed international affairs in a tweet at 16:19 UTC, sharing an update about developments in the Middle East: “Statement on Israel and Hamas Reaching an Initial Ceasefire Agreement:”
Seth Magaziner began serving as Rhode Island’s representative in Congress in 2023 after succeeding James Langevin. Born in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1983, Magaziner currently resides in Cranston. He earned his undergraduate degree from Brown University in 2006 and later graduated from Yale University in 2010.
