Congressman Seth Magaziner, who represents Rhode Island’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to address concerns about a halted energy project in Rhode Island and advocate for a ban on congressional stock trading.
On September 5, 2025, Magaziner criticized the Department of the Interior regarding an energy project in Rhode Island: “Unbelievable that an Interior official couldn’t explain why the Trump administration is halting an energy project in RI that is 80% complete, and cutting thousands of jobs in the process. Why won’t they give the American people a straight answer?” (September 5, 2025).
Later that evening, he commented on bipartisan efforts to address stock trading by members of Congress: “You don’t often see this group of Representatives on the same team. That’s how important it is to ban congressional stock trading. We’ve introduced a consensus bill, now let’s get it to the floor.” (September 5, 2025).
The following day, Magaziner reiterated his stance on preventing corruption within Congress: “The opportunity for corruption in Congress is just too great. The only option is a complete ban: No individual stocks or similar assets. We have a new bipartisan bill to do it. Read:” (September 6, 2025).
Magaziner has served as U.S. Representative for Rhode Island’s 2nd District since replacing James Langevin in 2023. Born in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1983 and currently residing in Cranston, Magaziner graduated from Brown University and later Yale University.
