U.S. Congressman Seth Magaziner, who represents Rhode Island’s 2nd district, took to social media on November 1, 2025, to address ongoing issues related to the federal government shutdown and rising health care costs.
In a post made at 12:21 p.m. UTC, Magaziner criticized House Republicans for their absence during the shutdown, stating, “House Republicans have been on vacation for 43 days. The government is shut down and health care costs are exploding. Cancel the vacation, and let’s get back to Washington. We have work to do.”
Later that day at 1:57 p.m. UTC, Magaziner highlighted concerns about health care access as open enrollment began in Rhode Island: “Open enrollment for HealthSource RI starts TODAY, and people across the state are bracing for higher premiums because of health care cuts and expiring ACA tax credits. This is exactly why health care funding must be part of any deal to reopen the government.”
At 5:21 p.m. UTC, Magaziner shared his participation in a local food drive with community organizations while referencing uncertainty over SNAP benefits: “Spent the morning with @NCScouts collecting food for @JonnycakeCenter in Peacedale. As we wait to find would whether the Trump Admin will obey a court order to release SNAP funds, RIers are stepping up to help neighbors in need.”
Magaziner has served as Rhode Island’s 2nd District representative since 2023 after succeeding James Langevin. He was born in Bristol in 1983 and currently resides in Cranston. He holds degrees from Brown University and Yale University.
