Seth Magaziner, a U.S. Congressman representing Rhode Island’s 2nd district since 2023, has used social media to call attention to the ongoing government shutdown and rising health care costs, while criticizing House Republicans for their absence from Washington.
On October 15, 2025, Magaziner posted, “BREAKING: I figured out how to solve the government shutdown / health care crisis. Here is how we do it: https://t.co/gDMMHTyFmJ”.
The following day, he addressed the issue of congressional attendance, stating, “House Republicans have been on vacation for 27 days. The government is shut down and health care costs are exploding. Cancel the vacation, and let’s get back to Washington. We have work to do.” This message was posted on October 16, 2025.
Later that same day, Magaziner shared his own efforts in Washington, writing, “I am in Washington this week to roll up my sleeves, negotiate to bring down health care costs, and reopen the government. My Democratic colleagues showed up. House Republicans are still on vacation.”
Magaziner, who succeeded James Langevin and began serving in Congress in 2023, was born in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1983 and currently resides in Cranston. He is a graduate of Brown University and Yale University.
