Seth Magaziner, U.S. Congressman representing Rhode Island’s 2nd district since 2023, used his social media account on July 30, 2025, to advocate for a bipartisan bill banning Members of Congress from trading stocks and to highlight community engagement in his district.

On July 30, Magaziner posted about legislative efforts regarding congressional stock trading. He wrote, “This is progress. Now the House must act. Speaker Johnson needs to call a vote on my bipartisan bill to ban Members of Congress from trading stocks once and for all.” In a subsequent post later that day, he stated, “Another big endorsement of our work to ban Members of Congress from trading stocks. The ball is now in Speaker Mike Johnson’s court—only he can bring this to a vote on the House floor.”

In addition to legislative matters, Magaziner shared details about his local outreach activities. On July 30, he tweeted: “Nothing beats good company and a little friendly competition. Thank you to the Coventry seniors for welcoming me for a few rounds of bingo!”

Magaziner has represented Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District since succeeding James Langevin in 2023. Born in Bristol in 1983 and currently residing in Cranston, Magaziner holds degrees from Brown University and Yale University.

Efforts to prohibit members of Congress from trading individual stocks have gained attention as lawmakers face increasing scrutiny over potential conflicts of interest.
