U.S. Congressman Seth Magaziner, who represents Rhode Island’s 2nd district, posted a series of tweets on October 15, 2025, addressing issues related to the ongoing government shutdown, recent legislative decisions affecting social programs, and opportunities for students seeking nominations to U.S. Service Academies.
In his first tweet of the day, Magaziner criticized House Republicans for their absence during the government shutdown, stating, “House Republicans have been on vacation for 26 days. The government is shut down and health care costs are exploding. Cancel the vacation, and let’s get back to Washington. We have work to do.” (October 15, 2025).
Later, he commented on cuts to social assistance programs, posting, “This from the same people who cut funding for SNAP benefits for children.” (October 15, 2025).
In his third tweet, Magaziner promoted service academy nominations for high school students: “High school students: want to serve your country while getting a world-class education? You can apply for a nomination to attend a U.S. Service Academy through my office now through Nov. 3, 2025. Learn more: https://t.co/JMaGd8EWM0” (October 15, 2025).
Magaziner, who succeeded James Langevin in Congress in 2023, has represented Rhode Island’s 2nd district since then. He was born in Bristol, Rhode Island, in 1983 and currently resides in Cranston. Magaziner graduated from Brown University with a BA in 2006 and earned a further degree from Yale University in 2010.
