Congressman Seth Magaziner, who represents Rhode Island’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, used social media this week to call for an end to the ongoing government shutdown and urge action on health care funding.
On October 9, 2025, Magaziner posted about his meeting with members of the Rhode Island National Guard in Cranston: “Today I met with @RINationalGuard in Cranston. The brave men & women in RING are among the many who may have to work w/o pay because of the shutdown. It’s time for Speaker Johnson to call Congress back so we can do our jobs, fix the health care crisis, & reopen the government.”
Later that day, he highlighted concerns over lapsing health care funding: “The consequences to letting funding for health care run out will be dire. We don’t have to choose between funding the government and addressing this health care crisis. We can and must do both.”
Magaziner continued his criticism of congressional inaction on October 10, stating: “House Republicans have been on vacation for 21 days. The government is shut down and health care costs are exploding. Cancel the vacation, and let’s get back to Washington. We have work to do.”
Magaziner has represented Rhode Island’s 2nd District since replacing James Langevin in 2023. Born in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1983 and currently residing in Cranston, he graduated from Brown University with a BA in 2006 and earned a further degree from Yale University in 2010.
