U.S. Congressman Seth Magaziner, who represents Rhode Island’s 2nd district, used his social media platform on October 5, 2025, to address issues ranging from appreciation for educators to criticism of the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on health care costs.
On World Teachers’ Day, Magaziner acknowledged the work of local and national educators. In a post published at 16:02 UTC, he stated: “Happy #WorldTeachersDay! Today we celebrate Rhode Island educators and teachers everywhere for their passion and commitment to shaping brighter futures.”
Later that day, Magaziner turned his attention to the effects of rising health care and drug prices on Rhode Islanders. At 21:00 UTC, he wrote: “RIers are being stretched to the limits by rising health care & drug costs. Employers say it’s making it harder to keep the lights on. Instead of addressing the crisis, Republicans shut the government down. I’m fighting to reopen it & protect health care.”
In another post at 23:43 UTC, Magaziner further criticized congressional Republicans over what he described as a “false choice” facing Americans amid the shutdown: “Republicans are giving Americans a false choice: pay much higher health care costs with rising premiums, or keep the government shut down. The American people deserve better.”
Magaziner has represented Rhode Island’s 2nd District in Congress since 2023 after succeeding James Langevin. He was born in Bristol in 1983 and currently resides in Cranston. The congressman is an alumnus of Brown University (BA) and Yale University.
