Congressman Seth Magaziner, who represents Rhode Island’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, addressed concerns over health care affordability and the ongoing government shutdown in a series of social media posts on October 8, 2025.
In his first post of the day, Magaziner wrote, “With a health care affordability crisis and a government shutdown, this is a stressful and confusing time for many. Today, I’ll be answering your questions live on Instagram to explain what is happening and how we can fix it. Submit your questions here: https://t.co/dlWrUvgf3a https://t.co/eUk6hTWhuI” (October 8, 2025).
Later, he reported on a meeting with medical professionals, stating, “Today I met with health care providers at South County Hospital to discuss how Congressional Republicans are putting the health care system at risk by refusing to extend ACA funding in the budget. We need to reopen the government with a budget that protects care for RIers.” (October 8, 2025).
Magaziner also highlighted the impact of the current budget standoff on local families, writing, “Young families in RI are already stretching every last dollar they make. Under the Republican budget, a family for 4 making $64k would see health care costs rise by $216 a month. Instead of fixing this, Republicans in Congress shut down the government and took a vacation.” (October 8, 2025).
Seth Magaziner has served as U.S. Representative for Rhode Island’s 2nd district since 2023, following James Langevin. Born in Bristol in 1983 and currently residing in Cranston, Magaziner is an alumnus of Brown University and Yale University.
