Congressman Seth Magaziner, who has represented Rhode Island’s 2nd District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, recently addressed several issues through a series of public statements. Magaziner, a Bristol native and Brown and Yale graduate, used social media to discuss federal funding decisions affecting Rhode Island, congressional ethics regarding stock trading, and support for veterans.
On July 11, 2025, Magaziner criticized the Trump administration’s decision to reallocate funds from local education programs. He stated: “The Trump administration just ripped $30 million from Rhode Island’s afterschool and summer programs—right in the middle of summer—to fund tax breaks for billionaires. We are calling for an immediate reversal of this cruel decision.”
Later that day, Magaziner commented on congressional stock trading practices. He posted: “In 2023, Members of Congress made over $1 billion in stock trades. That’s not how public service should work. I’m pushing to ban congressional stock trading because the job is to serve the people, not profit off the position.”
On July 12, 2025, Magaziner highlighted his participation at a local veterans’ event in Warwick and reiterated his commitment to supporting veterans’ issues in Congress. He said: “It was an honor to join Rhode Island veterans at the Bootcamp Breakfast & Veterans’ Resource Fair in Warwick. We owe veterans more than thanks, we owe them action. I’m fighting in Congress to protect VA benefits, expand access to care, and honor their service with results.”
Seth Magaziner succeeded James Langevin as representative for Rhode Island’s 2nd district in 2023. Born in Bristol in 1983 and currently residing in Cranston, he holds degrees from Brown University (2006) and Yale University (2010).
