Congressman Seth Magaziner, who represents Rhode Island’s 2nd district in the U.S. House of Representatives, posted a series of statements on social media addressing legislative developments and broader political issues between April 30 and May 1, 2026.
On April 30, Magaziner commented on recent congressional action regarding funding for the Department of Homeland Security. He wrote, “After our pressure, the House finally passed a bill to fund DHS minus ICE and CBP so we can hold these agencies to the same exact standards as any other law enforcement agency. This should have been done months ago.”
The following day, on May 1—International Workers’ Day—Magaziner recognized labor’s role in American society. He stated, “Every worker deserves respect for doing their part to build this country into what it is. International Workers’ Day, also known as May Day, is a time to recognize the contributions of working people and the power of organized labor in building a strong middle class.”
Later that day, Magaziner addressed ethics in Congress by calling for new restrictions on stock trading by lawmakers. He urged support for his proposed legislation: “Members of Congress can’t serve the public if they’re focused on their stock portfolios instead of doing what’s best for the country. Pass my bill. Ban stock trading in Congress. End the insider deals.”
Seth Magaziner has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after succeeding James Langevin as representative for Rhode Island’s 2nd district. Born in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1983 and currently residing in Cranston, Magaziner holds degrees from Brown University and Yale University.
