U.S. Congressman Seth Magaziner, who represents Rhode Island’s 2nd district, posted a series of tweets on July 31, 2025, addressing topics ranging from clean energy to stock trading by lawmakers and the use of cell phones in schools.
In a tweet at 13:40 UTC on July 31, Magaziner responded to Doug Burgum, former Governor of North Dakota, writing: “Hey Doug, they are called batteries. They are why clean energy continues to power millions of homes even at night. But you know that because wind and solar provide 40% of the energy in North Dakota where you were Governor. Stop lying for your boss.”
Later that day at 15:47 UTC, Magaziner commented on stock trading by members of Congress with a reference to a sitting senator: “Here’s a millionaire Senator who got rich off of defrauding Medicare complaining because he wants to be able to trade stocks while in office. I’m working w/ colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass a stock trading ban, but if you are standing in the way, I’ll call you out.”
At 17:01 UTC on July 31, Magaziner addressed education policy after speaking with State Representative Julie Casimiro about cell phone use in schools: “Here’s a Good Idea most of us can agree on: kids are in school to learn, and phones often get in the way. I talked with State Rep. Julie Casimiro about her Good Idea to ban cell phones in schools. Watch here:”
Magaziner has served as U.S. Representative for Rhode Island’s 2nd District since replacing James Langevin in 2023 and is known for his focus on transparency and education policy. Born in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1983 and currently residing in Cranston, he holds degrees from Brown University (2006) and Yale University (2010).
