The Rhode Island Interscholastic League announced on March 12 that the Credit Union Basketball Championships Press Conference will take place Friday, March 13 at 9:30 a.m. at the Ryan Center. The eight teams advancing to the Final Four of this weekend’s Girls and Boys Basketball State Tournaments are set to attend.
The event marks an important milestone in the state’s high school basketball season, as teams compete for a spot in the championship games. The press conference will also feature representatives from the Credit Unions of Rhode Island, which has served as presenting sponsor of the championships for 36 years.
For the girls’ semifinals, Westerly High School (top seed), Barrington High School (second seed), Ponaganset High School (third seed), and either North Kingstown or Portsmouth High School will compete. On the boys’ side, semifinalists include Barrington High School (top seed), Portsmouth High School (fourth seed), Central High School (sixth seed), and either La Salle Academy or Bishop Hendricken High School.
Semifinal games are scheduled for Saturday, March 14, with girls’ matchups beginning at noon and boys’ games starting at 4:00 p.m. The finals will be held Sunday, March 15, with the girls’ final at 4:30 p.m. and boys’ final at 6:30 p.m.
In addition to basketball, the RIIL Competition Cheerleading Championships presented by Cheer UP Athletics will take place Sunday morning at 11 a.m., also at the Ryan Center. Ticket information is available through the Ryan Center Box Office or online.
